Brightline, a high-speed train operating in Florida, offers an alternative to road and air travel. A premium ticket offers first-class amenities like snacks, drinks, and access to a special lounge. The Orlando to Miami journey from end to end takes about three hours and thirty minutes. On a sunny Saturday in March, I took a Brightline train from Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach. Alainta Alcin has heard about the huge transfer of wealth from baby boomers to their millennial children that is underway — a move that has been called the largest shift of assets in history. But Ms. Alcin, an analyst for hospital systems, says it bears little resemblance to her own family’s experience. But experts say that the narrative of millennials’ paying off debts and wielding greater spending power over the next two to three decades is complex — and leaves out families without enough assets to pass along. As a first-generation American, Ms. Alcin saw her mother struggle to raise herself and five siblings after her father died. The elder Ms. Alcin had menial agricultural jobs — work that, at the age of 67, has become more difficult to do, even as she tries to make higher payments on her home’s adjustable-rate mortgage.

CNN —People seeking employment at the Republican National Committee have been asked in recent job interviews whether they believe the 2020 election was stolen, according to two sources familiar with the questioning. Use of the question comes after the Trump campaign has effectively merged its operations with the RNC. A key focus for the Trump campaign, and newly elected leadership at the RNC, ahead of the 2024 election is election fraud. Much of that focus stems from former President Donald Trump’s dissatisfaction with how the RNC handled claims of election fraud around the 2020 election, multiple sources familiar with the matter said. While chairwoman of the RNC, McDaniel refused to acknowledge that Biden won the 2020 election.

In Search of Spring

When does spring begin? For some, it’s the second Sunday in March, when we turn our clocks forward by an hour in the United States. It’s only a three-hour flight from La Guardia (rainy, cold) to West Palm Beach (sunny, 81 degrees, slight breeze), and from there an hour’s drive to Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, the spring training home of the New York Mets. Here in Port St. Lucie on a Tuesday afternoon, weeks before the season’s official start, cheery fans were decked out in team merch, drinking Modelo Especial tallboys and snacking on peanuts, reeling off stats, heckling the players. Here, spring was already happening.

"It all comes down to longevity," Mary Beth Franklin, a certified financial planner and Social Security expert, said Thursday at Financial Advisor Magazine's annual Invest in Women conference in West Palm Beach, Florida. Beneficiaries get an 8% guaranteed increase in their Social Security checks for every year they defer beyond their full retirement age, up to 70 years old. Why Social Security is 'crucial' for womenGuaranteed income such as Social Security is "crucial" for women, Franklin said. "Full retirement age" is the age at which someone becomes eligible for their full Social Security benefit. Importantly, continuing to work after claiming benefits — if before full retirement age — may temporarily reduce your Social Security benefits due to an earnings cap.

Kent Nishimura | Getty Images News | Getty ImagesWest Palm Beach, Fla. — The U.S. Federal Reserve is likely to start cutting interest rates by the end of second quarter despite recent "hotter than expected" inflation data, according to Kristina Hooper, chief global market strategist at Invesco. The question has become, at what point — and how quickly — does the central bank start to cut rates in order to avoid plunging the economy into a downturn? Fed chair Jerome Powell said last week that the Fed may not be far off from throttling back. The Fed last raised interest rates in summer 2023; in prior interest-rate-hiking cycles, the Fed began cutting rates about 8½ months later, Hooper said. Jenny Johnson, president and CEO of Franklin Templeton, also expects the central bank to begin cutting rates this year, though in the second half of 2024 at Fed policy meetings in July or September.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Investors' emotions may run high in 2024, especially in the realm of politics as President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are poised for a rematch in this year's presidential election. "Politics have become increasingly more emotional," Moira McLachlan, senior investment strategist in AllianceBernstein's wealth strategies group, said Wednesday at Financial Advisor Magazine's Invest in Women conference in West Palm Beach, Florida. However, investors should avoid knee-jerk reactions by setting and sticking to an investment plan, strategists said. "It's so important to stay invested, and you have to try to take the emotion out of investing" to keep from doing something "detrimental" to your goals, said Kristina Hooper, chief global market strategist at Invesco.

Trump attempted to switch the Trump Tower addresses of several key assets to new addreses in Florida, state officials allege. In his final judgment, dated February 22, the judge uses the Manhattan Trump Tower address for all six of these defendants — not the Florida addresses Trump claimed.

CNN —A new glimpse inside Donald Trump’s inner circle shows how the ex-president’s men and women often confront a fateful dilemma under huge personal pressure. Butler’s comments are important because they foretell how he might testify in the federal classified documents trial that could be hugely damaging to Trump but that is increasingly unlikely to happen before Americans vote in the fall. Why ‘Trump Employee 5’ broke his silenceIt is too early to say whether Butler’s testimony would be decisive in the federal trial in the classified documents case. Walt Nauta, a Trump personal aide, and De Oliveira, who have not broken with the ex-president, have also denied wrongdoing.
